<title>Scottsville SATURDAY Farmers market Grand Opening</title>
			<link>http://wvpt.mhsoftware.com/ViewItem.html?cal_item_id=525&amp;dtwhen=2454651</link>
<description>Every Saturday through October, rain or shine.

Ribbons, Rogans, and a Raffle Mark the Opening of a New Market by the River
Scottsville's Saturday Farmers market set to open in style

Scottsville, VA. Saturday, May 3rd marks the start of a new venue for farmers and local artisans to sell their wares in Scottsville.
At 8am, the new Scottsville SATURDAY Farmers Market will open at the tent in Dorrier Park with a green ribbon cutting ceremony by various members of Town Council and the Scottsville Chamber of Commerce, who officially sponsors the Saturday event.

Opening Day will additionally feature Scottsville's own Rogan Brothers, who will perform around 10am, and there will be a raffle of local farm goods. Iona Farm will offer pony-led carriage rides.

Recent studies by the University of Kentucky have shown that a dollar spent at a Farmers Market re-circulates in the community 1.5 to 2.6 times longer than one spent at a chain store in the same place. This has positive reverbrations for the overall community and the rapid growth of Farmers Markets in Virginia is evidence of this trend. Community Viability Specialist Matt Benson Of Virginia Cooperative extension reports that "as of April 2008, there are 115 Farmers in the state of Virginia", with news of more to come.

In addition to the excitement of Opening Day earlier on May 3rd, Scottsville will also celebrate the opening of its popular Scottsville Council for the Arts' juried photography show on Valley Street, the Chili Cook-off Fundraiser for the Rescue Squad at James River Runners, and two shows by the nationally-acclaimed Honeydew Drops at 7 and 9pm at Victory Hall as a fundraiser through the Scottsville Center for Arts and Nature. Altogether, an excellent day to head down to Scottsville, the friendliest town on the James!
